Paul Targonski, M.D., Ph.D. is a primary care physician and doctoral epidemiologist who serves as Director for Clinical Research Initiatives in the Department of Public Health Sciences. Paul received his MPH, M.D., and Ph.D. in epidemiology from the University of Illinois at Chicago, residency training in Internal Medicine at the Mayo Clinic, and completed post-doctoral training in statistical genetics and genetic epidemiology at the University of Oxford in England. Paul came to UVA after more than decade on faculty at the Mayo Clinic, and he has also worked at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the National Institutes of Health. Paul has methodological expertise in clinical outcomes and comparative effectiveness research, and topical interests in exceptional longevity and healthcare coordination at the community/clinic interface.
