Health Equity, Law and Policy Research (HELPR) Program

Director: B. Cameron Webb, MD, JD

The Health Equity, Law and Policy Research Lab is a vehicle for health policy and equity research in the University of Virginia School of Medicine’s Department of Public Health Sciences (PHS). Led by Dr. Cameron Webb, Director of the Health Policy Program, and a team of student researchers, the HELPR lab produces research on the most pressing health policy issues to contribute to critical conversations as they unfold. The lab’s work ranges from Medicaid innovation to reducing health care costs, social determinants of health and health care utilization…and so much more.

Since January 2018, the HELPR lab has grown to include student researchers hailing from all over the University of Virginia, including the undergraduate campus, the school of public policy, the medical school and the various medical residency programs.

The HELPR lab’s mission is to leverage the potential of research to add statistical rigor and unique insights to health policy discourse at all levels of government. The lab continuously works to accelerate the design, execution and dissemination of research in health policy and health equity.
