{"id":3350,"date":"2017-09-07T14:54:33","date_gmt":"2017-09-07T18:54:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/med.virginia.edu\/phs\/?p=3350"},"modified":"2024-07-25T12:02:32","modified_gmt":"2024-07-25T16:02:32","slug":"engelhard-carolyn-l-m-p-a","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/med.virginia.edu\/phs\/2017\/09\/07\/engelhard-carolyn-l-m-p-a\/","title":{"rendered":"Engelhard, Carolyn L., M.P.A."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-469\" src=\"https:\/\/med.virginia.edu\/phs\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/188\/2015\/08\/carolyn-engelhard.jpg\" alt=\"Carolyn Engelhard.JPG\" width=\"350\" height=\"240\" srcset=\"https:\/\/med.virginia.edu\/phs\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/188\/2015\/08\/carolyn-engelhard.jpg 350w, https:\/\/med.virginia.edu\/phs\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/188\/2015\/08\/carolyn-engelhard-300x206.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 350px) 100vw, 350px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Carolyn Long Engelhard is an emeritus faculty member in the Department of Public Health Sciences at the University of Virginia School of Medicine and, until her formal retirement in 2019, held the academic rank of associate professor in both the School of Medicine and in the Frank Batten School of Public Policy and Leadership.\u00a0 Professor Engelhard\u2019s academic activities include analyzing and monitoring changes in health policy at the federal and state governmental levels and teaching in both the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences and the School of Medicine. \u00a0Among the many scholarly works over her 30-year career at UVA, Professor Engelhard co-authored a book looking at the myths surrounding the U.S. health care system, completed a national project in conjunction with the nonpartisan Urban Institute examining the use of public policies to reduce obesity, and contributed a textbook chapter examining the effect of the Affordable Care Act on health care organizations.\u00a0 \u00a0In addition, Professor Engelhard co-directed a multi-year national webinar featuring health policy experts and students across four universities, was a contributing health policy expert for the web-based news journal, <em>TheHill.com<\/em>, and created educational videos on current health policy topics for <em>MedPage Today<\/em>, a national web-based news organization. \u00a0Regarded as a UVA expert on health policy and the Affordable Care Act, Professor Engelhard often provided expert testimony to state-level legislative committees.\u00a0 Of all her academic endeavors, Professor Engelhard most loved introducing physicians-in-training and graduate students to the discipline of U.S. health policy and politics, both inside and outside of the classroom.\u00a0 Although she maintains her status as part-time teaching faculty in the School of Medicine, Professor Engelhard\u2019s main pursuits these days surround her community work with Free Clinics and spending time with her daughter, son-in-law, and three grandchildren.<\/p>\n<p>Associate Professor<br \/>\nHealth Policy Analyst<br \/>\nMasters Programs<br \/>\nM.P.A., Public Administration, University of Virginia, 1988<\/p>\n<p>P.O.
