Background
Biography: Geoff Smith was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio. His initial exposure to rehabilitation occurred as a patient after minor musculoskeletal injuries from playing football in high school and rugby in college. While majoring in English Literature at Dartmouth College he also completed his pre-medicine coursework. He finalized his decision to go to medical school while spending two months volunteering at a rural medical clinic in Honduras. After medical school and internship at Ohio State, he moved with his wife to Minnesota for PM&R residency at Mayo Clinic. Realizing a passion for serving people with life-changing disabilities, he elected to do a fellowship in Spinal Cord Injury Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio. During that fellowship he divided his training time among MetroHealth Medical Center (Cleveland’s Level-1 Trauma Center and Spinal Cord Injury Model Systems Center), Cleveland Clinic, and Cleveland’s VA Medical Center. He began his career at UVa in the summer of 2011. Apart from his work, he enjoys spending time with his wife and son, participating in faith-based groups, and both playing and watching sports.
