Michael Sheppard, MD
Michael Sheppard, MD, is an assistant professor in the department of physical medicine and rehabilitation at UVA. His areas of interest include musculoskeletal medicine, neurologic disorders, amputee rehabilitation, cancer rehabilitation, and general physiatry. He serves patients both in the inpatient setting at UVA Encompass Rehabilitation Hospital and outpatient in the UVA Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Clinic.
Dr. Sheppard was born and raised in Binghamton, New York. He earned his undergraduate degree at Cornell University, where he was a Division I springboard diver and majored in nutritional sciences. After college, he worked for AmeriCorps in Washington, DC for two years, then attended medical school at the George Washington University School of Medicine & Health Sciences. He came to UVA for his residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation. There he served as a chief resident and joined the faculty in 2021.
In his free time, Dr. Sheppard enjoys spending time with family, running, hiking, playing disc golf with the local Blue Ridge Disc Golf Club, and watching basketball.
