{"id":461,"date":"2020-11-19T02:17:39","date_gmt":"2020-11-19T07:17:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/med.virginia.edu\/policies\/?page_id=461"},"modified":"2021-01-25T14:18:28","modified_gmt":"2021-01-25T19:18:28","slug":"research-status","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/med.virginia.edu\/policies\/research-status\/","title":{"rendered":"Research Status"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li>Student is not eligible to receive any Financial Aid funds while enrolled in Research<\/li>\n<li>Student will be reported as full time to the clearinghouse\n<ul>\n<li>Loans will be deferred while in Research status<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Student will pay a reduced tuition ($206 per term for 2017-18) and full student fees (varies by in-state or out-of-state status)\n<ul>\n<li>The department can pay these costs for the student if they choose to<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Research status must correspond with billing periods Fall\/Spring\n<ul>\n<li>Students may not take electives or clerkships during research status enrollment<\/li>\n<li>Research status can be for 1 or 2 semesters<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Students retain hospital ID and access to library, student services<\/li>\n<li>If research occurs between 3<sup>rd<\/sup> and 4<sup>th<\/sup> year, student must complete Step 2 CK and CS as well as all clerkships before beginning research in the fall<\/li>\n<li>Students in research status are covered by medical malpractice liability insurance<\/li>\n<li>Students must still adhere to 6 year graduation limit<\/li>\n<li>Students may be paid for research while enrolled in research status<\/li>\n<li>Students must engage in research at UVA<\/li>\n<li>Students are expected to engage in research, as part of the research course, for at least 35 hours per week<\/li>\n<li>Students will be evaluated by faculty supervisor at completion of research status<\/li>\n<li>Students must submit a research report to the course director at completion<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><u>Process<\/u><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Student presents formal plan to College Dean<\/li>\n<li>Student secures a position in a UVA research project<\/li>\n<li>College Dean approves research status, emails registrar<\/li>\n<li>Registrar enrolls student in research at the next billing period<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><u>Learning Objectives<\/u><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Perform a critical reading of the scientific literature to understand the field of study<\/li>\n<li>Identify a research project and develop the experimental design<\/li>\n<li>Collect accurate data and perform critical analysis and interpretation of results<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><u>Course director<\/u>: Amy Bouton, PhD<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Student is not eligible to receive any Financial Aid funds while enrolled in Research Student will be reported as full time to the clearinghouse Loans will be deferred while in Research status Student will pay a reduced tuition ($206 per term for 2017-18) and full student fees (varies by in-state or out-of-state status) The department [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"parent":0,"menu_order":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","template":"","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"inline_featured_image":false,"footnotes":"","_members_access_role":[],"_members_access_error":"","_links_to":"","_links_to_target":""},"tags":[],"class_list":["post-461","page","type-page","status-publish","hentry"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v28.1 -
