The University of Virginia Department of Psychiatry and Neurobehavioral Sciences is seeking applicants for a full-time tenure-eligible faculty position to join the Center for Behavioral Health and Technology. This position will conduct clinical research in eHealth/mHealth with a particular focus on psycho-oncology. They will function as a member of a multidisciplinary research team and become significantly involved in ongoing projects and will initiate new programs in related areas of interest and focus. Faculty and staff at the Center for Behavioral Health and Technology are involved in many grant-funded projects to develop and evaluate eHealth/mHealth interventions in a variety of areas, including cancer, insomnia, diabetes, pediatric pain, HIV, alcohol-exposed pregnancy risk, substance abuse, and medication adherence. Salary and rank are contingent upon candidate qualifications.

Assistant/Associate Professor

The Department of Psychiatry and Neurobehavioral Sciences at the University of Virginia is seeking a full-time, clinical track Assistant or Associate Professor (tenure ineligible) to join its clinical faculty within the Behavioral Medicine Center. Primary responsibilities will include providing outpatient, empirically-based psychological services (e.g., diagnostic assessment and intervention) to individuals diagnosed with a wide variety of medical and psychiatric disorders.

Depending on the applicant’s areas of expertise, opportunities may exist to work with diverse patient populations from multiple clinical services, including but not limited to bariatric surgery, sleep medicine, pain management, adult neurology, oncology, and transplant. The remaining time will be spent in the training/supervision of psychology fellows, practicum students, and/or psychiatry residents. Opportunities to engage in collaborative research will be based on availability and applicant’s interest.

Candidates must have a PhD/PsyD in Clinical or Counseling Psychology from an APA-accredited program. Postdoctoral experience in Health Psychology is preferred. Preference will be given to those with experience providing empirically-based psychological interventions with medical populations, consulting with medical staff, and performing medically-specialized psychological evaluations. Candidates must be license-eligible in the Commonwealth of Virginia and must be licensed by the date of hire. Candidates must also be board certified or eligible for board certification from the American Board of Professional Psychology.

This position may be eligible to convert to tenure-track at an appropriate time in the future, consistent with School of Medicine Promotion and Tenure guidelines and candidate qualifications.

Vice Chair of Research

The University of Virginia, School of Medicine seeks a Vice Chair of Research to oversee research operations in the Department of Psychiatry and Neurobehavioral Sciences. The main responsibilities of this position include:

1. Maintain a highly productive research operation with a national and international reputation.
2. Assist the Chair of the Psychiatry Department in developing/recruiting/retaining high potential research faculty.
3. Provide guidance and mentorship to junior faculty members in defining and developing their research projects and directions (e.g. K award).
4. Support and expand resident, fellow, graduate student, medical student and undergraduate involvement in research, presentations, and publications. Potential for development of a training grant for resident/fellow research.
5. Compete successfully for external funding in order to maintain a well-rounded research portfolio with the majority of funding attributable to NIH grants.
6. Provide oversite, guidance and annual evaluations to senior level researchers.
7. Have regular meetings with the research administrator for financial updates on all research portfolios within the Department. And to make recommendations to the Chair for corrective actions needed to keep the research operation viable and solvent.

Qualified applicants must have an M.D. degree or equivalent and be currently boarded in general psychiatry. At least 5 years of experience conducting research in serious mental illness is required. Salary, rank, and tenure status are contingent upon candidate qualifications. Assistant/Associate Professor

The Department of Psychiatry and Neurobehavioral Sciences at the University of Virginia is seeking applicants for an Assistant/Associate Professor position. Responsibilities include providing clinical services to the Medical Center’s general adult psychiatry unit and addictions services. The incumbent is expected to participate in supervision and training of psychiatry residents, fellows, and medical students. The incumbent may be required to provide consult liaison service care, call for nights and weekends, and backup call for psychiatry service. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced clinician with interests in academic psychiatry and addictions psychiatry, teaching and research. Research Scientist

The Department of Psychiatry and Neurobehavioral Sciences seeks a Research Scientist to support research in the lab of Dr. Wendy Lynch. The successful candidate will conduct research projects involving drug abuse and addiction using various rodent models and in vitro models. The specific tasks will include performing surgical procedures, conducting drug self-administration studies, performing molecular experiments, analyzing behavioral and molecular data, and assisting the PI and other senior researchers in summarizing results and findings for conferences and publications.

Research Associate

he University of Virginia has new openings for two Research Associates with interests in research on cancer control or cancer prevention and a recent doctoral degree in Psychology or related field. Research associate positions are for a two-year period (2017-2019) divided into one-year terms in the Center for Behavioral Health and Technology in the Department of Psychiatry and Neurobehavioral Sciences. The doctoral degree must be obtained by date of hire.

These full-time research associates will conduct clinical research in eHealth, the provision of health treatment through the Internet and related technologies, with a focus on psycho-oncology. Interest and experience in any area of cancer control and prevention research, or on behaviors and treatments relevant to cancer, is strongly preferred. While experience in eHealth research is a plus, those with a strong interest are encouraged to apply. The research associates will be significantly involved in multidisciplinary teams conducting one or more grant-funded projects to develop and evaluate Internet interventions on cancer, and other conditions such as insomnia, diabetes, pediatric pain, HIV, alcohol-exposed pregnancy risk, substance abuse, and medication adherence. They will have the opportunity to create intervention content, develop treatment protocols, manage large national trials, perform data analyses, write grants, write manuscripts (including first-authored publications), review manuscripts, and present findings at national and international conferences.

Research Nurse PRN

The Department of Psychiatry and Neurobehavioral Sciences at the University of Virginia is seeking Registered Nurses to work on a PRN basis in the Center for Diabetes Technology of the department. This position requires performing blood draws on study participants and knowledge of study research procedures and protocols in an inpatient laboratory setting. Shifts include day, evening, night, weekend and holiday. Shifts are scheduled according to the needs of the study. Employees will report on an as-needed (PRN) basis, no more than 40 hours per week.

Qualified candidates must be a licensed RN and have at least one year of nursing experience and a CPR certification or equivalent by date of hire. Skills acquired during training may be considered in lieu of experience.

Research Program Officer

The University of Virginia’s Department of Psychiatry and Neurobehavioral Sciences is seeking a Research Program Officer to lead the administrative operations of the UVA Center for Behavioral Health and Technology (CBHT). The Research Program Officer will assist in the establishment of an administrative infrastructure for the Center and provide general management of the Center’s fiscal, research, and administrative activities. In addition, the Program Officer will provide support to the Center Director in creating a vision for and implementation of strategic program development; help formulate program strategies and goals, assist with long-term planning, and develop policies and procedures; serve as a principal liaison between the Center, University leadership, and outside entities to establish the associations necessary to enhance the Center as a worldwide leader in the field of eHealth.

Chief Operating Officer, Center for Diabetes Technology

The University of Virginia School of Medicine is seeking a Chief Operating Officer for the Center for Diabetes Technology (CDT).

The Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the CDT is responsible for overseeing every aspect of the day to day operations of the Center. This includes but is not limited to the management of operations, personnel, financial accounting, research and industry contracts, and research administration. This position serves as the point of contact for all operational and financial activities of the CDT.

The incumbent independently manages office administration and personnel and works with the CDT Director, Medical Director, and Associate Director for Research on budgeting and financial management, billing, research and industry relations, and human resource activities.

The COO will manage the international research network of the CDT, which is currently comprised of over 15 affiliated research groups in the United States, Europe, and Latin America.

A major task for the COO will be the maintenance of existing and the development and establishment of new contacts between the CDT and industry leaders, with the goal to position the Center as a well-defined translational research hub that serves the mission of the School of Medicine to implement diabetes technology research results into the clinical practice, health-care provider and patient education, and industrial applications.
