This past month, the University of Virginia acknowledged two professors within the Department of Radiology and Medical Imaging for excellence in research.

Professor James R. Stone, MD, PhD, was recognized as one of the Top 25 Sponsored Funding Recipients within the UVA system. Dr. Stone is the department’s vice chair of research; last fall, he received a $5.3 million federal grant for 4 projects studying how to better identify, prevent and treat brain injuries for military personnel caused by repeated blast exposures.

Meanwhile, Professor Christopher M. Kramer, MD, was nominated by UVA’s School of Medicine for going “above and beyond” in research endeavors. In addition to being a professor in the Department of Radiology and Medical Imaging, Dr. Kramer is also the chief of UVA’s Division of Cardiovascular Medicine; his research work includes cardiac imaging, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, and peripheral arterial disease.
