Registration is open for the University of Virginia’s first-ever Focused Ultrasound Innovation Summit, which will be held all day on Thursday, June 4 at UVA’s Contemplative Commons.
Organized by UVA’s Focused Ultrasound (FUS) Center of Excellence with support from the Focused Ultrasound Foundation, the summit offers a highly interactive day celebrating the scientific and clinical momentum of focused ultrasound at UVA and its growing impact beyond Grounds. Researchers, clinicians, industry partners, and institutional leaders will convene to discuss translational advances, emerging clinical directions, and strategic road-mapping to accelerate the impact of focused ultrasound. The events include cross-disciplinary panels, patient stories, and poster sessions, ending with a cocktail reception.
The summit will feature a poster session to showcase innovative research in focused ultrasound both within UVA and beyond. Researchers are invited to submit abstracts of projects pertaining to focused ultrasound, and committee member will then inform prospective presenters whether their poster has been accepted.
Established in September 2009, the UVA Focused Ultrasound Center of Excellence supports cutting-edge research and treatments using focused ultrasound technology. Since its inception, the FUS Center has had a strong impact on brain research, including its pioneering clinical trials for essential and Parkinsonian tremor, as well as technical and preclinical studies for neurological disorders. The UVA team also treats uterine fibroids and bone metastases, conducts cancer research, and is spearheading the world’s first clinical trials to combine focused ultrasound with immunotherapy. UVA’s FUS Center is the first designated Center for Excellence by the Focused Ultrasound Foundation, and was established through a public-private partnership between the Commonwealth of Virginia, UVA, the Focused Ultrasound Foundation, Insightec, and GE.
