UVA Radiology Earns Accolades at 2026 Radiology Conferences

Former and current members of UVA Radiology convened earlier this year at the Society of Interventional Radiology’s annual meeting in Toronto.

It’s been a busy first half of 2026 for the University of Virginia’s Department of Radiology and Medical Imaging! UVA members traveled across the nation for events including the Society of Skeletal Radiology’s Annual Meeting, the Association of Academic Radiology’s Annual Meeting, the Society of Interventional Radiology’s Annual Scientific Meeting, and the Society of Breast Imaging Symposium – delivering lectures, participating in panels, and earning accolades.

Society of Skeletal Radiology (March 7-11, Huntington Beach, CA)

MSK fellow Sean Rodich, MD, delivering a presentation on blastomycosis which won a “Case of the Day” award.

Members of the MSK Division headed to the SSR’s annual meeting in Huntington Beach, CA, where MSK fellow Sean Rodich, MD, won the “Case of the Day” award for his presentation on blastomycosis. Next year’s meeting will be organized with the help of Professor Kirk Davis, MD, who is now the SSR President-Elect!


Association of Academic Radiology (March 17-20 in Atlanta, GA)

Professor Arun Krishnaraj, MD, MPH, delivering the keynote lecture at the Association of Academic Radiology’s annual meeting.

In March, department members attended the annual AAR meeting in Atlanta. There, Professor Arun Krishnaraj, MD, MPH, delivered a keynote lecture titled “Bridging Generations in Radiology: Embracing Diversity for a Stronger Future,” featuring panelists including Professor Juliana Bueno, MD, and chief residents Kristen Reeder, MD, and Eric J. Fromke, MD. Professor Alan H. Matsumoto, MD, MA, also gave a presentation in his role as ACR president.


Society of Interventional Radiology (April 11-15 in Toronto, Canada)

A portion of the members of UVA Radiology’s Division of Vascular and Interventional Radiology who were in attendance at the SIR’s annual meeting.

Members of UVA IR took part in a variety of presentations, poster sessions, and panels during the SIR’s Annual Scientific Meeting. Participants from UVA’s IR-Integrated Residency include Andrew Ray, MD (PGY-6, chief resident), Amy Crumb, MD (PGY-5), Christina Dalzell, MD (PGY-4), Warren Campbell IV, MD, PhD (PGY-3), and Sunny Murthy, MD, MS (PGY-2). More than half of the department’s IR faculty contributed to the meeting, including J. Fritz Angle, MD, Ziv Haskal, MD, Alan Matsumoto, MD, MA, Daniel Sheeran, MD, Amy Taylor, MD, MBA, and Luke Wilkins, MD.

Other highlights: Dr. Angle was presented with the SIR’s inaugural Barry T. Katzen Master Clinician Award (which you can read more about here). Plus, a faculty team of Drs. Angle, Sheeran, Taylor, and Wilkins along with Associate Professor John Matson, MD, put UVA teamwork on full display, winning the Sunday IR Escape Room with their team named “Hoos on Call” and earning complimentary registration to the SIR 2027 Annual Meeting!


Society of Breast Imaging (April 16-19 in Seattle, Washington)

Julia Kim, MD, was honored on screens throughout the conference for being one of two Electronic Abstracts Winners.

At the 2026 SBI Breast Imaging Symposium, UVA Radiology resident Julia Kim, MD, was one of two winners for “Best Electronic Abstract.” Her presentation, titled “In the Shadows of Contrast: False Negatives on Contrast Enhanced Mammography,” was chosen from more than 400 submissions. Afterwards, Dr. Kim’s work was lauded in front of thousands of international radiology attendees during the main hall plenary sessions and on signage throughout the meeting.
