To celebrate and honor our residents graduating in 2026, we asked each of them to share some reflections on their time at UVA as well as their plans for next year.
Some of our graduating residents will be returning to UVA Radiology next year for fellowships, while others will be off to new places. No matter where our graduating residents will be, we wish them every success and happiness. Congratulations to you all!

Reflections on Your Time at UVA
UVA Health has been a place of meaningful community, even for an elusive soul like mine. I express deep gratitude to all of my mentors, especially Dr. Bueno, who all made remarkable impacts upon what has become of my professional experience in Radiology. The sun will rise and set many more times in my lifetime, but UVA Radiology’s impression on me once rose and stayed without any imminent signs of setting as it illuminates the horizon for what comes next.

Reflections on Your Time at UVA
Residency match is an interesting thing; growing up in the Southwest I would never have expected to end up living in Charlottesville, but I am so grateful that things worked out the way they did. My time at UVA has been incredible. I feel like I have developed tremendously as a radiologist over the last 4 years, and I owe all of that to this training program and faculty. I remember my first day as an R1 trying to interpret chest X-rays with a medical student looking over my shoulder who, at that point, I’m pretty sure could read them better than me. Now I feel prepared to begin fellowship and embark on the rest of my career. UVA has been equal parts rigorous and supportive, and I will always remember my time here fondly.

Reflections on Your Time at UVA
My time here at UVA has been really fantastic. Coming from Indiana, my wife and I have loved the chance to explore the local nature and food scene here in Charlottesville. It’s been a great place to wander around with our dogs and bask in the mountain scenery. I couldn’t have asked for a nicer group of co-residents to work with or a more supportive group of staff to work under. All in all, I feel incredibly lucky to have ended up here.

Reflections on Your Time at UVA
My time at UVA has been amazing and full of significant life changes, including getting married during the 2nd year of residency and giving birth to my baby boy, Yujin, as a 3rd-year resident. I am forever grateful for all the support and encouragement I’ve received from program leadership and faculty along the way and come away from residency feeling confident as a radiologist and as a human being. It was a challenging 4 years, but I am glad I was here at UVA for it all.

Reflections on Your Time at UVA
My time at the University of Virginia has been one of the most transformative, arduous, rewarding, challenging, and impactful periods of my entire life. Residency is designed to be difficult, to push you to new limits that you may once have not thought achievable; that said, I genuinely cannot imagine having gone through this journey anywhere else. The family and lifelong connections that I have gained through my time here at UVA will be something that I carry with me for the rest of my life. I am so thankful to my mentors and to my coresidents and fellows that challenged me to not just become a better radiologist, but a better physician, healer, and human being through their example. What a journey.

Reflections on Your Time at UVA
I have loved my time at UVA and couldn’t have picked a better place to train! It has been my honor to be able to serve as chief resident for the past two years. I have been able to train with a great group of co-residents and have made lifelong friends along the way. I am also very grateful for the education, support, and friendship of the faculty. They have helped shape me into the radiologist I am today. Although I’m sad to leave my friends at UVA, I’m excited to start a new chapter in Boston!

Reflections on Your Time at UVA
My time at UVA has been incredibly meaningful, both professionally and personally. I’ve been fortunate to train at a place with such a diverse and complex case mix, which challenged me daily; but just as importantly, I’ve been surrounded by supportive faculty, co-residents, technologists, nurses, and staff who truly made Charlottesville feel like home. One of the most special parts of residency was getting to share this chapter with my husband, and even more so welcoming our baby during residency. Balancing training and becoming parents was challenging at times, but the encouragement and kindness from everyone at UVA made such a difference for our family. I will always look back on these years with deep gratitude for the friendships, mentorship, and experiences that shaped me into the radiologist and person I am today.

Reflections on Your Time at UVA
UVA has been a memorable, significant, and life changing chapter of my life. In terms of training, the hard work and dedication of the faculty at UVA have imparted a radiology experience and foundation we could find nowhere else.
Beyond radiology, the friends and mentors I have made here are truly the biggest blessing of UVA. Residency is long and arduous, but the people that make UVA what it is today have always been there for us. I leave UVA carrying these lifelong bonds.
Four years flew by. I will definitely miss this chapter of my life but am grateful that the community we fostered at UVA will stay connected as we all enter the next chapter of our lives.

My time at UVA has been an exceptionally fulfilling and humbling experience. I am grateful for the opportunities I have had to learn from mentors and peers, as well as for the support that I’ve had from my family and friends through it all. Looking forward to what comes next!
