Clinical Educator Track

The Clinician Educator Track is an optional longitudinal program for radiology residents interested in medical education, academic radiology, and future leadership as clinician educators. Residents develop practical skills in teaching, curriculum design, learner assessment, feedback, mentorship, educational scholarship, and academic leadership.
Track participants receive longitudinal mentorship from experienced faculty educators and engage in medical student teaching, interdisciplinary conferences, departmental educational activities, journal clubs, workshops, and professional development sessions. The curriculum also draws upon broader institutional resources at the University of Virginia, including educational programming through the Center for Excellence in Education and leadership development opportunities through the UVA Health Leadership Institute.
Residents participate in the department’s Education Committee, deliver a resident-led conference, and complete an education-focused capstone or quality-improvement project, with opportunities for regional or national presentation. Participants also attend the Association of Academic Radiology Annual Meeting to gain additional exposure to national leaders, scholarship, and career pathways in academic radiology.
The program spans the PGY-3 through PGY-5 years, with approximately one participant selected per class. The track is designed for residents who hope to make teaching, mentorship, curriculum development, educational scholarship, or academic leadership a meaningful part of their future radiology careers.
