Diagnostic Radiology

Hi everyone! I’m Thanh Phuong Nguyen, and I am from Madison, Wisconsin. I was born in Vietnam, and my family and I moved to the US when I was 5. Since then, I’ve lived all over the country, but my family eventually decided to call a small town in rural Wisconsin, Fort Atkinson, home. The past ten years of my life have been spent in Madison, since I attended UW-Madison for both undergrad and medical school and spent my gap year working for the state health department.

I’ve never lived on the East Coast before, so I am very excited to explore Charlottesville and the area! I chose UVA foremost because I felt like the program balanced both training and resident wellness. On my second look, everyone was friendly and the camaraderie I witnessed reaffirmed my beliefs about the program. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for me here at UVA!
In my spare time, my partner and I really enjoy outdoor activities such as hiking, canoeing/kayaking, rock climbing, and camping! When we’re not outside, you can usually catch me knitting while listening to a good book or playing video games or board games with friends. In medical school, I hosted monthly board game nights and hope to continue doing so! We also love to travel and recently spent a month living in Japan, where we learned how to grind matcha by hand!
