for our our patients, as providers?<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Learning<\/strong> Questions<\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li>How do physicians and institutions accurately measure quality and safety metrics?<\/li>\n<li>What can the healthcare field learn about transparent safety metrics from the U.S. commercial aviation field?<\/li>\n<li>Why have nationwide estimates for \u201cavoidable\u201d patient fatalities climbed or only plateaued since nationwide actions to curb these deaths?<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>About the Speakers<\/h3>\n<h4><strong>Andy Pasztor<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">Andy Pasztor is a former aerospace reporter for<em> The Wall Street Journal<\/em>.\u00a0 Mr. Pasztor, who is writing a book about the history of air safety, recently retired from<em> The Wall Street Journal<\/em>, where he covered aviation since the mid-1990s.\u00a0 He is the author of the 1995 book <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">When the Pentagon was for Sale: Inside America&#8217;s Biggest Defense Scandal<\/span>.<\/p>\n<h4><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-11251 size-medium\" MSc<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">Tracey Rous Hoke, MD, is a pediatrician who specializes in the care of hospitalized children.\u00a0 Since 2013, she has served as chief of quality and performance improvement for UVA Health System.\u00a0 In this role, she works with other senior leaders and staff to improve care delivery at the health system.\u00a0 Dr. Hoke earned her undergraduate degree in biology from Dartmouth College and her medical degree from the University of Maryland.\u00a0 She completed her residency in pediatrics at UVA and a fellowship in cardiology at Johns Hopkins.\u00a0 Dr. Hoke holds a graduate degree in outcomes research from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and has also served as medical officer at the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, National Institutes of Health.\u00a0 She joined UVA in 2006, as the director of quality and safety initiatives in the Department of Pediatrics.<\/p>\n<h4><strong><img MPH<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">Arun Krishnaraj MD, MPH, is an associate professor of Radiology and Medical Imaging at the University of Virginia, where he serves as vice chair for Quality and Safety, director of the division of Body Imaging, chief of the section of Abdominal Imaging, director of Body Procedures, and fellowship director of Body Imaging.\u00a0 Dr. Krishnaraj\u2019s seeks to improve the quality, safety, and efficiency of imaging and health care in the United States by leveraging his formal training in public health, clinical radiology, and informatics to maximize radiology\u2019s value to society.\u00a0 The focus of his research is on patient centered care, LEAN driven process improvement, the value of reporting, the role of artificial intelligence, the impact of social media in radiology, and the implications of evolving US health policy on the field of radiology.<\/p>\n<h4><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" Dake, an internationally recognized physician-scientist, health educator and innovative medical researcher, has been appointed senior vice president for health sciences at the University of Arizona.\u00a0 Dake has an international reputation for revolutionary work in improving vascular health to help treat debilitating diseases.\u00a0 He has published more than 300 peer-reviewed articles and more than 100 book chapters.\u00a0 His publications in Nature Medicine have been cited more than 1,000 times, and his papers in the New England Journal of Medicine have been referenced more than 1,500 times.\u00a0 Overall, the impact of Dake&#8217;s contributions to the medical literature have earned more than 30,000 citations, which puts him among the top scientists in his field.\u00a0 He holds 31 U.S. patents and has founded five companies.<\/p>\n<h3>About the Moderator<\/h3>\n<h4><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-11250 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/med.virginia.edu\/radiology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/191\/2021\/12\/haskal-1-165x300.jpg\" alt=\"UVA Professor, Dr. Ziv Haskal, MD, FSIR\" width=\"165\" height=\"300\" \/>Dr. Ziv Haskal, MD, FSIR<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>Professor, UVA Department of Radiology and Medical Imaging<\/em><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">Dr. Haskal is a tenured professor of radiology and medical imaging in the Division of Interventional Radiology at the University of Virginia School of Medicine. He received his M.D. at Boston University School of Medicine and completed residency and fellowship at the University of California, San Francisco. As a sought after teacher and educator, Dr. Haskal has given more than 500 invited lectures worldwide and been awarded numerous honorary fellowships, national, international and societal awards for leadership, service and research excellence. He has designed, participated or led more than 40 research trials. Dr. Haskal has also published more than 400 scientific manuscripts, chapters, review, abstracts and editorials in journals ranging from Human Gene Therapy and the New England Journal of Medicine, to Circulation, JVIR, Radiology, Hepatology and more.
