Alan H. Matsumoto, MD<\/p><\/div>\n

Alan H. Matsumoto, MD, the Theodore E. Keats Endowed Professor in the Department of Radiology and Medical Imaging, was awarded with the VIVA Foundation\u2019s 2024 ATLAS Award.<\/p>\n

The ATLAS Award \u2013 an acronym for \u201cA Teacher, Leader, And Scholar\u201d \u2013 was announced on May 29. The honor recognizes Dr. Matsumoto\u2019s impact as a scholar and leader in the field of vascular medicine across the United States and the world.<\/p>\n

A vascular and interventional radiologist, Dr. Matsumoto has been a faculty at UVA\u2019s Department of Radiology and Medical Imaging since 1991, and served as chair from 2009 to 2023. This past year he was honored with a new department fund, named the Alan H. Matsumoto, MD, and Julie A. Matsumoto, MD, Endowment to Advance the Missions and Science of Radiology<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Earlier this spring, Dr. Matsumoto was also named the chair of the American College of Radiology\u2019s Board of Chancellors. The announcement was made during the College\u2019s annual meeting in April.<\/p>\n

Founded in 1923, the ACR is a professional medical society representing more than 40,000 physicians across the United States and Canada. Dr. Matsumoto previously served as vice chair for the ACR\u2019s Board of Chancellors.<\/p>\n

\u201cHaving known and worked with Dr. Matsumoto since 1983, he has been, and continues to be, a tireless advocate for radiology, radiologists and the patients we serve,\u201d said ACR CEO William T. Thorwarth Jr., MD. \u201cIn his various roles, he has been a tremendous asset to the ACR and is the perfect choice to lead our profession into the future as chair of the ACR Board of Chancellors.\u201d<\/p>\n
