First Trimester Pregnancy, Ectopics, and the SRU Consensus Lexicon

\nLecture delivered on May 19, 2025<\/p>\n

Objectives of the lecture: 1) to understand the rationale for why a first trimester pregnancy ultrasound lexicon is needed, 2) to learn the new preferred terminology and definitions for first trimester pregnancy, early pregnancy loss, and ectopic pregnancy, and 3) to review the criteria for early first trimester pregnancies.<\/em><\/p>\n

About the Lecturer \u2014 Aya Kamaya, MD<\/h3>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Aya Kamaya, MD, FSRU, FSAR<\/strong> is Professor of Radiology at Stanford University, Division Chief of the Body Imaging Division, Director of Ultrasound, and Director of the Stanford Body Imaging Fellowship. She is a past President of the Society of Radiologists in Ultrasound (2021-2022). Currently, she is the Society of Abdominal Radiology Igor Laufer Visiting Professor for 2024-2025 and the SAR Portfolio Director for Lifelong Learning.<\/p>\n

Dr Kamaya has authored 4 major textbooks on the topic of abdominal and pelvic ultrasound and is the lead author of the US section of Radprimer. She has authored ~ 170 peer reviewed publications. She is NIH and industry grant funded, and is active in clinical research in a variety of ultrasound, hepatobiliary, urologic, gynecologic, and translational ultrasound related research.<\/p>\n

Dr Kamaya led the SRU Consensus Committee for management of Incidental Gallbladder Polyps and is co-chair of the LI-RADS Ultrasound Surveillance working group which created a standardized set of vocabulary and imaging guidelines for screening and surveillance for HCC. She is a member SRU Consensus Statement on First Trimester Pregnancy Lexicon which was recently published.<\/p>\n

In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her husband and two children, skiing, snowboarding, yoga, running, playing the piano, and surfing.<\/p>\n
