Earlier this month, <a href=\"https:\/\/news.med.virginia.edu\/deans-message\/dean-kibbe-accepts-role-as-president-at-uthealth-science-center-at-houston\/\">Dr. Kibbe announced that she had accepted a role at UTHealth Houston beginning in September.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>A proud &#8220;Double-Hoo,&#8221; Dr. Derdeyn possesses over a decade of departmental leadership experience. He joined UVA Radiology as department chair in 2024; before then, he had served as Department of Radiology chair at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinic beginning in 2015.<\/p>\n<p>In an email to members of the School of Medicine on Wednesday morning, Dr. Derdeyn expressed his confidence in the community&#8217;s ability to navigate through an uncertain future.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Our success depends on harnessing the strengths of every department and discipline,&#8221; wrote Dr. Derdeyn.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We face real challenges in the months ahead \u2014 recruitment, funding pressures, and the need to maintain momentum in a time of change \u2014 but I believe our extraordinary people and our dedication to all our missions will carry us forward. Together, we can strengthen our foundation today and position ourselves for lasting success.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>As part of this transition, Professor of Radiology and Medical Imaging Cree Gaskin, MD, will serve as interim chair for UVA Radiology.
