We are pleased to announce that\u00a0Dr. Julie Matsumoto<\/a> has received the 2016 Sharon L. Hostler Women in Medicine Leadership Award<\/a> for her contributions and leadership at the UVA School of Medicine.<\/p>\n

Dr. Matsumoto embodies many attributes the Sharon L. Hostler Award is designed to recognize. A faculty member of our Neuroradiology Division since 1991, she has long been an outstanding teacher during didactic resident and fellow lectures and in one-on-one discussions at the view box. She has a history of success in clinical research via collaborations with colleagues across several departments in the School of Medicine on numerous past and current projects. Dr. Matsumoto has been a tremendous role model as well, quietly demonstrating the ability to balance life both inside and outside of the hospital, all while providing mentorship and advice for numerous trainees.<\/p>\n

Dr. Matsumoto is board certified in Diagnostic Radiology with subspecialty certification in Neuroradiology and is a senior member of the American Society of Neuroradiology (ASNR). She is a Fellow in the American College of Radiology (ACR) and was elected to the Academy of Distinguished Educators at UVA in 2011. Her clinical practice includes the interpretation of imaging studies of pediatric and adult brain, spine, and head and neck disorders, with special expertise in pediatric neuroradiology, imaging of the orbit and visual pathways, and pituitary imaging. She is the author of a digital atlas and reference book on normal pediatric brain MRI. In her role as an educator, Dr. Matsumoto teaches medical students, residents, and fellows in the area of neurological imaging.<\/p>\n

Her help in day-to-day patient care is invaluable. In her unassuming expertise and patient character, she embodies the type of physician that I would strive to be.”<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n
