Dr. Matthew Austin<\/a>, neuroradiologist and UVA Assistant Professor of Radiology and Medical Imaging, appeared on Richmond’s NBC 12 to speak about stroke treatments and symptoms for National Stroke Awareness Month. Dr. Austin, who sees patients at Bon Secours St. Mary’s Hospital in Richmond, outlined the risk factors for stroke, spoke about tPA\u00a0 (a “clot-busting” drug), and talked about mechanical thrombectomy, a minimally invasive procedure to remove blood clots from the brain and other parts of the body.<\/p>\n

Dr. Austin also explained the BE FAST mnemonic, which helps people remember the signs that someone may be having a stroke.<\/p>\n
