In particular, we study how brain cell activity is regulated by neurotransmitters and their receptors, signaling pathways and ion channel effectors. Our current research focuses on: a) signaling mechanisms that mediate control of breathing by CO<sub>2<\/sub>; and b) mechanisms that activate membrane channels that themselves mediate release of signaling molecules.
