UVA Department of Surgery

The Department of Surgery at the University of Virginia (UVA) provides excellent patient care, pursues cutting-edge research, and educates the next generation of world-class surgeons. Unified in diversity, best practices guide care for each patient as we expand our knowledge of health and disease.

Altogether, our department consists of nine divisions: Acute Care and Trauma Surgery, Breast and Melanoma Surgery, Cardiac Surgery, General Surgery, Pediatric Surgery, Surgical Oncology, Thoracic Surgery, Transplant Surgery, and Vascular and Endovascular Surgery.  Faculty are full-time tenure track professors with interests in both clinical and bench research. Many of our faculty lead national surgical organizations.
