Surgical Research Training
About
Our lab conducts surgical research using various animal models of lung transplantation, lung ischemia-reperfusion injury, ex vivo lung perfusion (EVLP), in vivo lung perfusion (IVLP), cardiopulmonary bypass, and ECMO. This surgical research provides valuable surgical training to Residents while at the same time supports our research project goals. One of the favorite surgical models among residents is porcine lung transplantation (see some pics below). We have a dedicated large animal operating room in the Vivarium of our building with support from our veterinarians and excellent technical personnel.
