Sumit Isharwal-SOM Transcription My name is Sumit Isharwal. I am an assistant professor in the Department of Urology. In our department, we have a resident training program as well as one fellowship in andrology. In the residency program, we take two residents per year. So it's a five year program; one year of general surgery and four years of urology. We are looking for a good fit in the sense that they should be a team player, hard-working and also passionate about taking care of patients. Depending upon the interest and desire to learn, they work with us in the operating room, as well as in the clinic, as well as taking care of the patient on the floor. Our department is a medium-sized department where everyone is very closely interacting with each other on a day-to-day basis, and works pretty much as a part of one family. Residents have no hesitation reaching out to any attending in our department and discuss their strength, weakness and trying to become a better surgeon. And because of this close environment, I feel like this sets us apart compared to some other program, where it might be a bigger program, but residents and attendings don't have a close personal relationship.
