GLP-1 medications don’t replace nutrition fundamentals — they make them easier to apply!
In this practical session, registered Dietitian Summer Kessel breaks down the nutrition approaches recommended for clients taking GLP-1 medications. No gimmicks. No extreme rules. No protein panic. Just the foundational principles DPP coaches already understand — applied through the lens of a new experience with appetite, side effects, and weight change. We will discuss nutrition-related red flags to prioritize client safety.
You’ll leave confident in how to guide clients toward adequate protein, fiber, hydration, strength-supportive eating, and sustainable patterns — without creating fear or confusion. Because the truth is: the basics you already know and understand still work – most of the time!

With the rapid rise of GLP-1 receptor agonists (such as semaglutide and tirzepatide) for weight loss, a critical clinical challenge has emerged: the significant loss of fat-free mass (FFM) alongside fat loss. Skeletal muscle is an important component of the fat-free mass compartment. In this talk, Dr. Angadi will discuss the current state of evidence with regard to exercise strategies designed to protect skeletal muscle and function in patients undergoing GLP-1 therapy. His presentation is rooted in his recent collaborative research published in The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism, which examines the mechanisms of muscle loss and the potential for exercise to maintain functional capacity during rapid weight loss.
Presenter Bio – Dr. Siddhartha (Sid) Angadi is an Associate Professor at the University of Virginia, where he carries out research at the intersection of cardiovascular physiology and lifestyle interventions. His work focuses on how exercise, pharmacotherapy, and nutrition interact to influence human health and disease. Dr. Angadi’s work investigates how targeted physical activity can mitigate the physiological side effects of certain drug therapies.
GLP-1 medications don’t just change weight or appetite — they can impact identity, social dynamics, and relationships with food and body.
In this session, Summer, the Dietitian, will explore the patient experience of living with obesity and navigating GLP-1 medications in today’s world. DPP coaches are uniquely positioned to provide grounded, stigma-free support to clients on GLP-1 medications. This session will equip you to understand mindset shifts, address weight bias, respond confidently to GLP-1 criticism, and help clients build sustainable lifestyle habits.
