All students will receive tuition, health/dental insurance, and a competitive stipend. Students who earn individual fellowships from the National Science Foundation, National Institutes of Health, American Heart Association, Department of Defense, and others will receive an annual merit supplement to their stipend that will continue as long as they remain in good standing in the program.  An annual allotment for travel to scientific meetings or courses is available depending on individual degree program policies.Financial support comes from University fellowships, National Institutes of Health (NIH) Training Grants, federal, foundation, and industry grants as well as from Endowment Funds.Implementation and continuation of financial support and/or merit supplements is contingent upon full time enrollment in a BIMS degree program at the University of Virginia and satisfactory performance in both research and academic classes, as judged by the student’s Ph.D. Mentor, Dissertation Committee, Graduate Program, and Associate Dean.
