As a student at the UVA School of Medicine, you will join a supportive, learner-focused environment. You will be a member of one of four colleges, each of which has a college dean. Each college is divided into groups of six students, with a faculty coach. You will be in your college from the moment you arrive to the moment you graduate, supporting each other throughout the journey of becoming a physician.

Colleges rotate together through the clerkship year – a distinctive feature of UVA’s approach to encourage a sense of community and support across the curriculum. The college framework creates a learning community among students, between classes and with faculty, providing a vital social connection and supportive environment in which to learn. Students in Pinn College, one of the four colleges, complete their clerkships and required courses in the post-clerkship phase at our regional campus, Inova. This framework provides a social context for instruction and allows for more consistent oversight of clinical performance and professional development.
