CARRII Native: Optimizing a Digital AEP Risk Intervention with Native Women and Communities

CARRII Native is an automated digital behavioral intervention to reduce risk of Alcohol-Exposed Pregnancy among Native American women and others who can become pregnant.

This study will tailor the first digital AEP risk reduction intervention with evidence of efficacy, CARRII (Contraception and Alcohol Risk Reduction Internet Intervention), for Native women.

The purpose of the study is to determine the optimal combination of novel intervention strategies to include with CARRII, tailored for Native women, that maximizes digital intervention efficacy at a feasible cost for Native communities.

About The Study

Participants will be randomized to use CARRII Native and a combination of zero, one, two, or three new intervention components for 3 months. These may include monthly telephone calls about drinking and contraception behavior; monthly pregnancy tests by mail; access to digital training in safer sex and reduced drinking; text messages about safer sex and drinking reduction, or an anonymous community message board for social support.

Total compensation for participation is $150, paid by e-gift card. 

Survey

This study involves answering questions in an online survey. The survey questions will ask about you generally, and about your alcohol use, sexual choices, use of methods to prevent pregnancy, use of mobile phones, and interest in subsequent related studies.

Enrollment for CARRII is currently paused, but is projected to resume in spring 2026.
