The Blue Ridge Poison Center is a 24-hour, 7-days a week hotline for help with suspected poisonings. We also answer non-emergency calls about poisons and poison safety.

Call 1-800-222-1222 right away if you think someone:

  • Swallowed something harmful.
  • Got something harmful on the skin or in the eyes.
  • Breathed a dangerous fume or gas.
  • Overdosed on any substance.
  • Was bitten or stung by a snake, spider, etc.

Don’t wait for the person to look or feel sick. Much of the time, our experts can help you resolve your problem quickly and on site, without having to go to a healthcare facility. Our help is confidential and FREE.

pre-kindergarten teacher and studentThe Blue Ridge Poison Center is hosting a free virtual presentation, “Poison-Proof the Preschool Years: Partnering with Families to Keep Children Safe,” designed for preschool teachers, childcare providers, and other early learning professionals. The Zoom session will cover strategies for preventing childhood poisoning and equip attendees with practical tools to share with the families they serve. Participants will receive a free Poisoning Prevention Toolkit, along with magnets and stickers to distribute, plus a certificate of participation. Two session times are available: Thursday, September 24, from 7 to 8 p.m., or Saturday, September 26, from 10 to 11 a.m. Registration is free but required
