Dr. Ann Sutherland awarded new grant to study mechanisms driving fundamental cell movement involved in early mammalian development.

Congratulations to Dr. Ann Sutherland for the recent award of an RO1 from the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development entitled “Vangl2 Function in Mammalian Convergent Extension.” Ann’s groundbreaking research over the years has resulted in advances in embryo culture, live cell imaging and image analysis, which now make it possible to study cell behaviors driving convergence and extension movements in mammalian embryos. The current grant will support Ann’s efforts to extend this work to elucidate mechanisms of cell polarity involved in coordinating individual cell behaviors.
