Dr. Mete Civelek was selected by The Institute for Practical Ethics and Public Life (IPE) to receive a 2018 Donchian Teaching Fellowship.  The fellowships enable UVA faculty to develop or enhance courses that focus on ethics or incorporate ethics into other subject matter. With support from this fellowship, Dr. Civelek will revise the curriculum for his Biomedical Engineering course, “BME Data Science” to put a spotlight on ethical issues in the field. Topics covered will include informed consent, data ownership, privacy and anonymity, data validity, algorithmic fairness, and societal consequences.
