On July 22, 2019, UVA School of Medicine’s Senior Associate Dean for Research, Margaret A. Shupnik, PhD, announced the appointment of Josyf Mychaleckyj, MA, PhD, as Assistant Dean for Biomedical Data Sciences Research. As Assistant Dean for Biomedical Data Sciences Research, Dr. Mychaleckyj will serve as an advocate for data scientists and other investigators in the School of Medicine who utilize complex data sets and computational methods in research. He will be involved in strategic planning for research. This will include developing computational infrastructure; providing training and infrastructure support to foster compliance with regulatory requirements for data security and data rigor; seeking opportunities to increase funding for research and training in data sciences investigation; and collaborating with IT and research offices throughout the University and the Health System to provide appropriate bioinformatics and data infrastructure for research.
