The CEO’s List highlights the incredible range of talent we see across UVA Health. These team members work in various capacities and illustrate the best of us through their research, national recognition, leadership, community engagement, and pursuit of providing excellent care to patients.

Clint L. Miller, PhD

Researcher Clint Miller of UVA’s Center for Public Health Genomics has published in Cell Genomics about the development of coronary artery disease in diverse groups traditionally underrepresented in research studies. Although coronary artery disease is the leading cause of death worldwide, research has primarily focused on people of European and East Asian descent. Dr. Miller and Dr. Chani Hodonsky, previously with UVA’s Center for Public Health Genomics and now at Ionis Pharmaceuticals, incorporated data from ancestrally diverse Americans and found it improved their ability to identify genes critical to the accumulation of fatty or calcific plaque, or “hardening of the arteries,” in the coronary arteries. By studying a more diverse population, they expect to better understand the drivers of the disease and explore more targeted therapies. Clint, congratulations on making major progress in our efforts against coronary artery disease.
