In celebration of Women’s History Month, UVA Health proudly highlights Dr. JoAnn Pinkerton, a national leader in women’s health and the founding director of the UVA Midlife Health Center. In recognition of her outstanding contributions, the Women’s Midlife Health Endowed Professorship has been established within the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

This new professorship, made possible through the generous support of the Kundrun family and the Oakwood Foundation, reflects Dr. Pinkerton’s lifelong commitment to advancing care for women in midlife. She will be the first to hold this role, which will support innovation in clinical care, research into new treatments, and the training of future providers. Upon her retirement, the role will be renamed the JoAnn Pinkerton Professorship in Midlife Health.

Dr. Pinkerton founded the Midlife Health Center in 1993 to address the unique and evolving needs of women over the age of 40. The center offers a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach to care, including perimenopause and menopause management, heart and bone health, cancer prevention, and more. It also serves as a hub for research, community outreach, and education for healthcare professionals.

Claudine Kundrun, whose family helped make the professorship possible, praised Dr. Pinkerton’s compassion and dedication, noting that her care had a lasting impact on patients and families alike. The endowed professorship will ensure that her work continues to benefit women for generations to come.
