The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and UVA Health are delighted to announce they took care of 2,284 births in 2022. The Department provides support to patients who seek the full range of wellness care throughout pregnancy: midwives, high-risk obstetricians, specialists in maternal fetal medicine, family practice physicians, NICU, and more.
As covered by NBC 29 in their feature, UVA Certified Nurse Midwife Kate Becker said, “It’s a real, I think, sense of security for the birthing person to feel as if they have everything they need at their fingertips, even if their plan is a pretty low-tech, low-intervention birth, you know, that they they are looking for the midwives to support them through.”
In a feature story from CBS 19, Division Director Dr. Vanessa Greg, MD, MBA, Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology, shares “We really do have people who come not just from Charlottesville and Albemarle but from surrounding counties if they need specialty care that only UVA can provide, and I think we’re also seeing an increasing number of people choosing to come to UVA for low-risk care as well.”
Dr. Vanessa Greg received her MBA with a concentration in Executive Leadership from James Madison University in December 2022. The multi-year rigorous course of study focuses on “Leading Through Change”, developing both knowledge and skills in our academic healthcare environment.
