TriNetX

Recommended Starting Point

When designing a clinical research study you may need to conduct a cohort analysis on a known set of eligibility criteria or evaluate and refine criteria for a study that is under development. TriNetX Live is a secure cloud-based platform that is now available for use and is the recommended starting point for self-serve cohort analysis.  TriNetX Live offers access to a significant subset of de-identified UVA Health system patient data, currently reflects data from the beginning of UVA Health System’s use of EPIC (September 2010), and is updated on a weekly basis.

TriNetX Live provides a highly functional and aesthetically pleasing user interface for constructing queries to identify and analyze patient cohorts.  Select the measures across the major areas of interest – demographics, diagnoses, procedures, lab tests, and so on – and compose them as you wish (e.g., cumulative, intersectional).  Temporal relations between conditions and clinical events may be added.  Sub-populations can be derived from existing populations.  Additionally, TriNetX Live provides visual tools to display the distribution of many characteristics of the patient cohorts.

Cost

Account access is free.  Re-identification of TriNetX patients (MRNs only) is currently no charge.  To request additional data matched to your TriNetX patient cohort, refer to our Data Request

Access

To access TriNetX, send an email requesting an account to researchdata@uvahealth.org.

To approve and create your account, we will verify that you have completed appropriate CITI Human Subject Research (HSR) training.  If you identify a patient cohort of interest to your research effort, you may share that patient population to us within TriNetX Live, and request corresponding patient data from us, ranging from simple re-identification ( a list of the UVA MRNs for the patients ) to a full, complex set of data, per the approved IRB protocols for your research effort.
