For more than 35 years, the Perinatal Continuing Education Program (PCEP) has enhanced the knowledge and skills of physicians, nurses, nurse midwives, respiratory therapists, and other providers of care for pregnant women and newborns.  The PCEP, 4th edition workbooks have been brought up-to-date with leading-edge procedures and techniques.

Accreditation and Designation Statement

Jointly Accredited ProviderIn support of improving patient care, this activity has been planned and implemented by the American Academy of Pediatrics and UVA Health Continuing Education. UVA Health Continuing Education is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

Physicians
UVA Health Continuing Education designates this enduring material for a maximum of 56.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits.TM   Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Nurses
UVA Health Continuing Education awards up to 56.5 contact hour(s) for nurses who participate in this educational activity and complete the post activity evaluation.

Hours of Participation
UVA Health Continuing Education awards 56.5 hours of participation (consistent with the designated number of AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)TM  or ANCC contact hours) to a participant who successfully completes this educational activity. UVA Health Continuing Education maintains a record of participation for six (6) years.

UVA Health Continuing Education as a Joint Accreditation Provider adhere to the ACCME Standards for Integrity and Independence in Accredited Continuing Education, as well as Commonwealth of Virginia statutes, University of Virginia policies and procedures, and associated federal and private regulations and guidelines.

As a Joint Accreditation provider, UVA Health Continuing Education requires that all faculty presenters identify and disclose any off-label or experimental uses for pharmaceutical and medical device products. How to Earn Credit

To prepare for the book exam each PCEP participant should study the material of each unit and then take the practice unit test for that unit.  Practice unit tests can be repeated as many times as desired. When ready to take the book exam click on the link to ‘PCEP Book Exams’. After passing each book exam at a level of 80% correct or greater, PCEP participants must then click the link provided at the end of the test, register & pay, complete a short course evaluation, then claim credit.

Please note that the exam fee has increased to $25 since the texts were published in 2022.

Those who completed the test before April 15, 2025 can request a discount code to be charged the original $15 fee. Please contact Elizabeth Patterson, CE Program Manager at epatterson@virginia.edu and include “PCEP” in the subject line.

Credit breakdown for the 4th Edition of PCEP books:
14.5 hours for Book I: Maternal and Fetal Evaluation and Immediate Newborn Care
16 hours for Book II: Maternal and Fetal Care
17 hours for Book III: Neonatal Care
9 hours for Book IV: Specialized Newborn Care
56.5 TOTAL CREDITS
