Welcome to the Kenworthy Lab!

We are an interdisciplinary research team at the University of Virginia working on two overarching goals.  One is to understand the role of membrane  microdomains such as lipid rafts and caveolae in health and disease.  The second is studying the role of intracellular protein dynamics and complex formation in autophagy, a housekeeping mechanism used by cells to maintain homeostasis in times of starvation and stress. We address these questions using a combination of live cell imaging, cell biology, biophysics, and biochemical approaches. We collaborate extensively with  mathematicians, physical chemists  and  clinicians to understand these processes more holistically. Find out more about it in our research page.
