Dermatology is an increasingly popular destination for physician-scientist trainees, however the proportion of trainees who pursue scientific research careers after training is among the lowest of all medical specialties. We published this Perspective (Li et al.) in JID Innovations to tackle this issue, presenting a training practicum and providing a resource for funding opportunities to help guide trainees and institutions interested in supporting investigative dermatologists. The information provided is aimed at improving recruitment, training, development, and retention of investigative dermatologists and future leaders in the field. This Perspective has generated 10 commentary articles (JID Innovations, Jan. 2022) from around the world to share their experience on training physician-scientists.
