Carrie Cowardin, PhD, earned her doctorate last year while working in the Petri lab and is now a postdoctoral fellow at Washington University in St. Louis. For her work in the Petri Lab she is now one of Forbes’ “30 Under 30 in Healthcare”. Carrie showed in her paper published in “Nature Microbiology” that virulent forms of C. difficile make toxins that kill off protective immune cells in the gut.
