Drs. Spader and Grabb bring 40 years of pediatric neurosurgery experience

We are pleased to introduce our new pediatric neurosurgery team consisting of two board-certified pediatric neurosurgeons with a combined experience of almost 40 years, Drs. Heather Spader and Paul Grabb. Drs. Spader and Grabb bring with them a wealth of clinical and academic experience having both served as division chiefs at flagship academic medical centers. They also have deep ties to Virginia, both having completed undergraduate degrees at UVA and Dr. Grabb also completed medical school at UVA.

Dr. Spader completed her neurosurgery residency at Brown University and her pediatric neurosurgery fellowship at the University of Utah. Since fellowship, Dr. Spader has held academic faculty positions at Florida Atlantic University and the University of New Mexico, where she served as Division Chief. In addition, she also held a research appointment with the prestigious Boston Children’s Hospital, and she was founder of American Association of Neurological Surgeons Pediatric Section Podcast series. Her current research initiatives include quantitative neuroimaging, global health and health disparities in pediatric neurosurgery.

Dr. Grabb completed his neurosurgery residency at the University of Pittsburgh and his fellowship in pediatric neurosurgery at the Children’s Hospital of Alabama. He has served on the faculty and clinical staff at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, the University of Colorado, and Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, serving as division chief of pediatric neurosurgery in both Colorado and Kansas City.
