Trainees Awarded Grant for Patient Advocacy

November 27, 2018 by aza7yc@virginia.edu

At this year’s American Society of Cytopathology Annual Meeting in Washington D.C., Dr. Christina Pierre (Clinical Chemistry fellow), Dr. Ashley Volaric (PGY-3), and Dr. Sara Zadeh (PGY-4) were awarded the Patient Advocacy Grant for their work continuing cervical cancer screening in Trinidad and Tobago, where Dr. Pierre is from. The Patient Advocacy Grant consists of a $10,000 allotment for selected projects designed to improve the quality of patients’ lives, with a particular focus on preventative measures such as cervical cancer screening. This coming January, the team will travel down to Trinidad and Tobago to carry out the second installment of the annual “Pap Party,” originally created by Dr. Pierre, with the goal of screening approximately 500 women with both Pap and HPV co-testing measures.

If you are interested in contributing to this project, please select the “Make a Gift” button on our homepage or click here and designate the contribution in the “Special Instructions” field for “T&T Cervical Cancer Screening.” Thank you.
