A few of our residents joined Dr. Robin LeGallo in an engaging and exciting educational opportunity for our undergraduate students here at UVA. The local chapter of the Student National Medical Association (SNMA) at UVA School of Medicine hosts a yearly session for undergraduate students interested in pursuing a career in medicine to get a glimpse into what we as pathologists do every day. These students, who are part of the Daniel Hale Williams pre-health society, joined Drs. LeGallo, Brett Kurpiel (PGY-3), Ansley Scott (PGY-2), Bettie Yeboah (PGY-2), and Kyle Hodge (PGY-2) in examining normal human anatomy and subsequently taking a deep dive into exploring a myriad of gastrointestinal, pulmonary, renal, and cardiovascular pathologies. The medical student leaders of SNMA and the undergrads alike showed enthusiasm, interest, and a real passion for learning! Here at UVA Pathology we encourage our residents to take advantage of all our opportunities for medical education either at the scope, in the lab, or out in the community. We certainly look forward to more educational events in the future!
