UVA Pathology at The International Clinical Cytometry Society Meeting

There was strong UVA Pathology representation at the 2024 International Clinical Cytometry Society (ICCS) Annual Course and Meeting, which took place at the Westin Seattle Hotel from October 4-8, 2024. Dr. Elizabeth Courville presented a lecture during the Annual Course (“B-Cell Lymphoma Classification and Cases”). On Sunday evening, PGY2 Dr. Jacob Kaplan presented a poster “Determining Monocyte Percentages by Flow Cytometry: A Comparison of Approaches” describing his project evaluating a monocyte-directed flow assay new to our lab. Validation specialist Robert Obedzinski, MLS(ASCP) SCYM, presented a poster Monday evening on “Challenges Faced and Lessons Learned from Implementing 10-color Flow at an Academic Institution.” Faculty member and former hematopathology fellow Dr. Margaret Moore was also in attendance at the meeting/conference.

The International Clinical Cytometry Society (ICCS) is an international organization to serve the needs of those involved in the current and emerging clinical applications of cytometry. The ICCS 2024 Meeting & Course is designed for Laboratory Directors, Physicians, Laboratory Managers and Supervisors, Clinical Laboratory Scientists/Medical Technologists, and Residents/ Fellows. The goals of these events are to help participants increase their knowledge of current tools and technologies available for patient sample analysis, better understand the accepted methodologies and benchmarks for patient sample analysis and diagnosis, and to increase their competence in using analytical software applications.
