2015 UVa 3MT Competition Deadline

January 30, 2015 by zrb8mf@virginia.edu

The 2015 Three Minute Thesis (3MT) Competition process begins with an informational session on Friday, February 6 @ 12:00. On the 3MT @ UVA website, the 3MT is described as follows: “Whether you’re networking, interviewing for a job, or just having a conversation at a party, it is essential to have an “elevator pitch” to describe your dissertation work. Three Minute Thesis (3MT) is a competition that helps graduate students develop the necessary communication skills to effetively explain their scholarship in a clear and succinct way so that all people, from field-specialist to the lay-person, can understand the topic and importance of their work. Plus, it comes with the opportunity to win cash and prizes!”

The application deadline is February 18th and there’s a workshop between the info session and the deadline to help get you on the right track. This is a great opportunity for students, so be sure to check it out.

The Pharmacological Sciences Training Grant (PSTG) is proud to report that we have funded two trainees who won awards in the 3MT Competition. Eric Greenwald (Jeff Saucerman’s lab) was the 2014 Audience Choice Winner for his video “Scaffold Proteins: (un)leashing efficient communication” and Lindsey Brinton (Kimberly Kelley’s lab) was the 2013 Competition Winner for her video “Catching Tumors in Their Webs.”
