Rachel looks through a microscopeThe Pharmacology Department would like to congratulate Rachel Clements on receiving funding from the NIH in the form of an F31 grant. The title of her project is “Regulation of PACAP expression and its role in protecting early neonatal respiration.”

PACAP (Pituitary adenylate cyclase-activating peptide) has been implicated in sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). Rachel will be examining molecular mechanisms regulating expression of this neuropeptide in respiratory neurons at the time of birth and initiation of air breathing, and determining its effects on breathing stability and responses to SIDS-relevant environmental stressors.

Congratulations Rachel, Pharm is very proud of you!
