A Message from the Chair
It is a tremendous honor to serve as Interim Chair of the Department of Psychiatry and Neurobehavioral Sciences at the University of Virginia. Our department has a proud tradition of excellence in patient care, education, and research, and I am excited to build on that foundation alongside such talented and dedicated colleagues.
Our greatest strength is our people. Every day, our faculty, staff, trainees, and community partners bring energy and compassion to caring for patients, advancing science, and mentoring the next generation of mental-health leaders. We share a deep commitment to collaboration, inclusion, and innovation—values that guide everything from our clinical programs to our research and educational missions.
We are also proud to offer one of the best training programs in psychiatry and psychology. Our residents, fellows, and subspecialty trainees receive exceptional preparation through dedicated faculty mentorship, an outstanding and flexible curriculum, ready access to cutting-edge research opportunities, and a deeply supportive learning environment. Training blends evidence-based clinical approaches, innovative neuromodulation, and a rich array of psychotherapeutic modalities—equipping graduates to become leaders in clinical care, research, and education
