The Launch of the Center for RNA Science and Medicine
I would like to recognize the multiple UVA researchers who have been integral to the launch of the Center for RNA Science and Medicine, a groundbreaking collaborative center that will become an epicenter for research, leading to revolutionary treatments of many diseases. Roger Abounader, a professor of microbiology, immunology, and cancer biology and the Arthur and Margaret Ebbert Endowed Chair of Medical Science, and Hui Li, a professor of pathology, are leading the center’s efforts and are supported by a remarkably strong team of researchers from across five schools and more than 40 labs at UVA. RNA dysregulation is linked to cancer, genetic disorders, and viral infections, and RNA-based therapies are revolutionizing the treatment of human diseases including COVID-19 and cancer. This center is poised to drive transformative discoveries with profound implications for healthcare. Dr. Abounader and Dr. Li, I wish you well in your research. We are privileged to have you both at UVA Health!
