UVA MSTP welcomes Dr. Yuh-Hwa Wang as Associate Director for Scientific Programs

Dr. Yuh-Hwa WangThe MSTP Leadership is delighted to announce that Dr. Yuh-Hwa Wang (Professor, Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics) has accepted the position of MSTP Associate Director for Scientific Programs.

Dr. Wang earned her PhD from North Carolina State University and completed her postdoctoral work at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. She then joined the faculties of the University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey and subsequently Wake Forest School of Medicine where she rose to the rank of Associate Professor. Dr. Wang was successfully recruited to join the UVA faculty in BMG where she has held the position of professor since 2017. Her research focuses on genome instability in cancer and repeat expansion diseases. In addition, her lab has ongoing projects investigating the role of higher-order organization of chromatin structure in transcription.

Critical to her new role in the MSTP, Dr. Wang has an outstanding reputation not only as a scientist but also as a mentor who takes an impassioned interest in the training and welfare of graduate students. She holds a Certificate of Commitment of Excellence in Teaching in Medical Education and has participated in multiple mentorship workshops at both UVA and the NIH. Finally, she has completed the AAMC’s course on Women Faculty Professional Development.
