Congratulations to Sara Dochnal on very successfully defending her PhD. Throughout her graduate studies, Sara has developed a novel model of HSV-1 latency and reactivation using a recombinant “Stayput-GFP” virus. Using this virus, she has explored the role of host cell stress proteins in HSV-1 latency. She is also uncovering the nature of heterochromatin that assembles on the HSV-1 genome during latency and the potential for different types of heterochromatin to form that are more or less permissive to reactivation. Needless to say; Sara has contributed a lot to the lab and HSV-1 latency field.
