Research Description
Dr. Slawson, B. Lewis Barnett, Jr. Professor of Family Medicine, is nationally and internationally known for his development of Information Mastery, which builds on the principles of evidence-based medicine and makes them more applicable to the primary care setting. In addition to his oversight of all aspects of the Fellowship, Dr. Slawson serves as course leader for a key two-semester Fellowship course, "Information Mastery and Evidence-Based Medicine." Fellows are trained to be Level 2 providers of Information Mastery through this coursework and have the opportunity to participate in a number of practicum experiences in teaching and scholarship related to Information Mastery, including developing a critical review on a specific topic for inclusion in the POEMs Section of The Journal of Family Practice, assisting in teaching residents to develop a CARE Path (Clinical Application of Reliable Evidence) for use in the Department's clinic, and serving as an author or co-author of a Clinical Inquiry for The Journal of Family Practice and American Family Physician through participation in the Family Practice Inquiries Network (FPIN).
